Welcome to our website

Our aims

Ashbourne Heritage Society aims to promote, research, publicise any aspect of the history and heritage of Ashbourne and the surrounding area.  We see heritage as a much wider subject than just local history.

How we do this

We offer an annual programme of heritage-related lectures.

We organise visits to historic buildings and sites of interest, both local and further afield. In the past these have included trips to Southwell Minster, Chartley Castle and Throwley Old Hall ruin with its mediaeval field system.

We participate in local exhibitions and events. In 2017, we were major contributors to the highly successful three month long Ashbourne Treasures exhibition.

Lecture series

Post-Covid, our meetings (from September to June) will now take place on the fourth Friday of the month at the Elim Church, Waterside Park, Ashbourne DE6 1DG, between 2.00pm and 4.00pm; talks will begin at 2.30pm. Our June meeting will be the AGM and may be held at a different location (TBA). The September meeting may be replaced by a visit.

We may also organise visits and walks during the year. Details will be posted here and on social media, and members will be notified by email.

Lectures are free for members and £5.00 (payable on the door) for non-members
